Playing Our Favorite Childhood Sports. Backyard Sports Club is a co-ed adult sports club with leagues in Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Chesapeake and Hampton Virginia. This alternative sports league is built on being social and fun with a new twist to the old pastime sport of picnic outings and field day from elementary school. American Backyard Sports is truly inspired by this great man, my Grandpa (picture of Grandpa below) In 2015 I started working for a security company installing home security and automation systems. Since then, I have installed in Nevada, Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, Texas, Michigan, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee and South Carolina.
We grew up and live in a small farm town in central Utah where my grandparents decided to live after my grandfather retired from the Los Angeles police department. My grandparents are some of the best quality people you could know. I was very blessed growing up close to them. Grandma was a stay at home mom to 4 crazy boys and with Grandpa being a boy at heart Grandma had her hands full, and I never heard her complain. She was always smiling or chuckling in the chaos when we all got together. Grandpa was always fishing, growing a massive garden, and always had projects going on in his wood workshop. As Grandpa got older, it got harder for him to walk because of the 28 years spent on his police motorcycle, so he began spending more time sitting in his chair watching baseball or football. Oh how Grandpa loved football! (He was actually on patrol near the stadium at the time Super Bowl 1 was being played) I can't tell you how many times I would ask him who his favorite team was and the answer was always the same, 'I just love the game.' I spent a lot of time watching sports with Grandpa and he would tell me stories of being a motorcycle cop.
I believe it's because of Grandpa and his stories that I have such a love and deep respect for our service men and women and all they do! I do have a family full of firefighters, EMT's, and of course military, but Grandpa and his stories had the most impact on me. In 2015 I started working for a security company installing home security and automation systems. Having the opportunity to do installations in these areas has allowed me to meet and get to know those that have served our country in various departments: Law-enforcement, EMTs, fire department, search and rescue, dispatchers, nurses, and military of all branches. By being in their homes and hearing of their experiences, my respect that I already had for them has grown even more. My goal with American Backyard Sports is to help bring communities across America together to better support those that have served and are serving us. We are accomplishing this by getting communities together to play sports and raise money for those service men and women in need.
