A guide to having your own basketball court installed

Most homeowners assume that a professionally designed basketball court, baseball diamond in their backyard is out of their price range. However, we believe that it is possible to spread the benefits of playing sports daily without having a large budget. Backyard Basketball is a series of entries into the Backyard Sports franchise of video games. The first game was developed by Humongous Entertainment and published by Infogrames Entertainment SA and released for Microsoft Windows and Macintosh platforms in 2001.

Home sport courts are popular additions for backyards. You can have a half court or full court basketball court installed. The court itself can be made of concrete with the lines stenciled on. Or it can be made of copolymer tiles that come in a variety of colors. You can also use a rubberized textured product such as 'Plexipave' to create a gamecourt. Depending on your needs you can get a permanent hoop with a glass backboard, or a portable hoop that can be rolled away if necessary.

Basketball Court Location Tips:

  • Consider the time of day you will play most often - situate the court so that you won't be shooting into the sun

  • Keep vertical space in mind - a basketball court should not have low tree branches nearby that could interfere with shots or passes

  • If short on space the court can be tucked into a slope by constructing a retaining wall

Pro Tip: Copolymer tiles and rubberized court coatings come in many colors. I recommend either matching the color scheme with your home, or you can have a little fun by selecting the colors of your favorite NBA team.
